Analysis of one character
Hazel Lancaster
- She is the 16 year old protagonist and narrator of the novel who has lung cancer.
- She has as a very "dark" personality, as she tend to relates everything around her to death.
- She is very selfless, I notice this a she tends to keeps most people at a distance, knowing that they will be hurt when she dies soon.
- She is very passive, in fact its this characteristic that makes her parents belief that she is depressed.
- She reads a lot and I belief that that is probably one of the factors that make her very smart, aside that she seems to understand everything and has an answer to everyone in the support group. However she is very quite and usually happen to keep her thoughts to herself.
Events
From the beginning of the story Hazel was introduced with lung cancer, Through the story it is revealed that she originally had thyroid cancer, though it spread to her lungs, later. Aside that, the story evolves around Hazel relationship with Augustus. Hazel life was pretty linear and boring, in fact her parents claimed she was often depressed. But then she met Augustus in some support group she attends and so far it seems as if she is falling in love. This is important as it will more likely cause a big twist to her life.
Theme
- I think that so far the main theme is: The impact of love and how it can light up the darkest part of you and your lives.
Thoughts
I haven't read much but I really liked the book, specially because I like the main character's personality. I consider Hazel a smart, simple and selfless girl. I also like the combination that the book's plot has. It involves the tragedy of cancer with a love story, and they highly affect one another. Furthermore I think hazel way of seeing life and people is interesting and entertaining, I like her sarcastic sense of humor. I cant wait to know what is going to happen next, and even though I have many theories I really hope that Hazel does not die.
